STORY
A long time ago, a being called Tabuu inflicted a substance known as Subspace on many fighters. Due to their strengh, however, Tabuu was defeated... but the power of Subspace still lingers. Not just because the Isle of Ancients could no longer float, and had vanished into nothing. This chaos has however opened up a new possibility...

That is, however, one that cannot be harnessed willingly. However, the people of Smashville took control of the area which had the most corruption, and made a town on it. A peaceful town, full of animals.

Many tournaments are held in the town - but the seasons quieten down, and so a new way to keep the town alive was needed. For a time, a new mayor took over - but they've gone off camping. Isabelle, however, was contacted by a mysterious ally - and told that in order to aid everybody, people from outside needed to come. Needed to feel close bonds. Though she didn't quite understand it, she opened the doors...!

Those who wished for a new start could come live in Smashville. Could come make new bonds, and explore the world - and learn to relax. Of course, they can always catch a train home - if the train is heading home, instead of to the City, or the Sea, or many other areas! Since the town is built on Subspace, however, chaos seems to reign... and just what had gotten them into this trouble, huh?

RULES
Since we all hopefully know how to follow basic RP etiquette (don't godmod or infomod, keep your characters' personality and characteristics in mind, and so on), please follow it.

Be kind and courteous. Please contact me with any concerns with others - this roleplay is not meant to be stressful for anybody. If you are rude or acting out of line, you can get banned.

Since duplicates and AU characters - along with all OCs - are allowed, don't complain if a version of a character doesn't know yours.

Keep anything over PG-13 community locked - or, do it in your own journal.

Questions and Answers

OOC QUESTIONS
What is this game(?)
This roleplay is... well, an old-school dressing room, basically, which you can use as a sandbox or a musebox. With a bit of plot, and a claims form just to have information out there for people.
What's Animal Crossing? What's with the Nintendo Crossover?
Animal Crossing is a life simulation series of games. A lot of the basis of this game comes from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. As for the reason for all the crossover content? This game is based on the Super Smash Bros. series as well, paticularly the 3DS/Wii U iteration.
Where does RP take place?
There's only one in-character community - [community profile] a_new_leaf. However, dungeons may also be run on Discord or Plurk (at least on an OOC level).
Is there Activity Check?
Nope! However, you can exchange activity for rewards. There will also be a check-in every two months, to make sure the taken list remains clean. (Even if you don't check in, you can always join again.)

CHARACTER QUESTIONS
What type of character is allowed here?
All AUs, original characters, canon characters, CRAU, and anything else you can think of. The only exception is real people - and that's only because that's not the sort of RP this is! Doubles are also allowed. The only exception is that nobody can pick up the Canon Villager for this town. This is just to keep the RP balanced.
Why is there a player limit?
Because there's only one main mod, and I feel 25 people (including me) is the best amount to be able to really influence NPCs and be able to play around with the world, without it becoming overwhelming.
Wait! What does the Claims page mean, species?!
As it says on the Animal Crossing 101 page, you can decide to turn your character into an animal! This is optional, but highly recommended. What isn't optional is that when you arrive, you seem to be... smaller. Every character is re-sized to fit the size of Animal Crossing. Outside of the Town and City, this size change doesn't need to be kept.

If your character does get a scarf to become human or humanoid, however, they can be made to keep animalistic features.
Can my character use their powers?
Your character is nerfed when they arrive, animal or not - they cannot use any of their abilities. This is only in Smashville, or any locations outside noted to limit powers. The only exception is shapeshifting and multiversal teleportation - these are always nerfed. Characters may also buy an item to allow themselves to use their powers.
If the power is biological - like an Inkling changing from a Squid to a Kid - they can keep this power. If a power requires a force from another world - such as Mist, or if it's dragging in a summon from another realm - these powers can be used once denerfed/in other places.

SETTING
So what's all this about Trophies?
Like in Super Smash Brothers, Trophies can be found - either though Meow Coupons, Dungeons, or events. These Trophies can be brought to life as assistants or companions for characters. Unlike Super Smash Brothers, there are Trophies of every character here - and players can also suggest more. Trophies automatically are donated to the Museum, and this also helps upgrade the town. Anybody can borrow them, however!
How does my character make money? Does their money work in all these different worlds?
Thanks to... ahem, negotiation from Tom Nook, it does work in all worlds. As mentioned on the Animal Crossing 101 page, they can do whatever they want for money! Just don't make it unrealistic, and it should be fine.
Is there a network?
Yes, there is! Everybody gets a New Nintendo 3DS on arrival, from either Isabelle or Lloyd. There's more information on the Animal Crossing 101 page. If your character brings another device which should be able to connect to a wireless signal, you can decide if it can connect to the network or not.
I want to do X with one of the NPCs.
Feel free to - unless it's something major like trying to marry them or kill them or the such. Then just toss it at a mod and we'll discuss it. Some NPCs have IC Inboxes, mind you - but those may be slow to get a reply.
Dungeons have their own FAQ page.

OTHER
How do we tag entries?
The tagging system is characters' first name (ou/au/crau/oc) (journal) - because there might be more then one of a certain character and type. As some examples:

   mario (ou) (jumpman)
   samus (au) (no-objections)
   samus (au) (savedtheanimals)

Tagging makes it easier to look up threads you've done, so I recommend it!
Where does most plotting take place?
While there is an OOC community, there is also a Discord Community. Feel free to join! There will also be monthly CR memes.
Any other questions? Feel free to ask.

Claims
So, you wish to board the train and join us in A New Leaf? Awesome! All you need to do is fill out the form below. One character per claim, please. (You can claim as many as you want - this just makes it easier on the mods!)

Note there is a player limit. Currently, there are 15/25 players.

Name: Your name!
Contact: Any contact is fine. We have a Discord, if you wish to join it!

Canon:
Character: Western name order, please.
Variation: OU, AU, CRAU, OC.
Info: If your character is straight out of canon, you can link a wiki article. Otherwise, add a paragraph or two describing your character - it doesn't need to be in depth, just enough so we know what your character is like!

Animal Species: Any real animal species is fine. You can also decide not to change them from their canon self.

Animal Crossing 101
Arrival

Once the train pulls up - a train you don't remember boarding, even if you know what one is - you'll always be greeted by Isabelle - except on an event day, but there'll be signs for everybody to follow! She'll give you a map with locations marked, and offer advice for your stay in Smashville.

Animal-fication

Before arriving, however, characters may find themselves becoming animals. These can be any animals from Animal Crossing - including NPC-only races. Want to be an owl? Have fun!

Characters have a chance, however, to have this form changed though MEOW Coupons, gained though optional Activity. Characters can become mythical or fictional creatures (such as criptids, dragons, Pokemon, or other creatures made up for a canon.) If you have enough MEOW coupons from one character, you can apply for a character as a fictional creature.

If you decide not to change them on arrival, they will still be downsized to fit into Animal Crossing. Powers will also be nerfed... but only in town! (Biological powers, like Inklings/Octolings' changing from Squid to Kid, aren't removed.) If they catch the train out of town, they can use their original powers, within reason. However, they may find that everybody else has the same level of power...

Because what's Smash Bros without characters being around the same strength level?

Network

When characters arrive, they get... a New Nintendo 3DS. Yes, just a regular New Nintendo 3DS... except not. If they click to enter Miiverse, it'll bring up a modified version of it, where characters can leave videos and audio recordings, alongside pictures they take. If you want a private chat? There's an old application for that, called PictoChat!

This 3DS can also play NES games, alongside Animal Crossing: Puzzle League and Desert Island Escape. They can even use Trophies to add those characters to the games!

...However, even if there is a network, this game is made for face-to-face interaction.

Seasons/Calendars/Events

This roleplay runs on 1:1 time. Every month, a new calendar will go up - check here to see the latest one! Every month, there will be at least two mod-run mingles - one with silly stuff happening, and one being a casual get-together.

However, there will also be other events - including dungeon explorations - for those interested in a slight plot behind why and how this place exists.

Housing

For more information on upgrades, go to the specialised page.
For canon furniture, go to this wiki page.

Money

There's many ways your character can get money, and this can be handwaved. For example, they could get a part-time job at any of the businesses around - or just go around catching fish and bugs! Or, they could make their money by exploring. Or, of course, any way you want! When they arrive, they can choose to convert some of their money to Bells - one Bell equals about 0.1 USD.

MEOW Coupons (Regains + Upgrades)
Though there's no Activity Check, activity will be rewarded with getting Points and Items! In game, these items will be delivered by mail or will be gotten by going to Wisp - either the item itself or a pick up location. Below are the items you can get.

However, if there's another type of item or reward you want for activity, get in contact and we can discuss how much it would cost! Every 15 comments are worth 1 Point.

1 Point (15 comments)2 Points (30 comments)3 Points (45 comments)5 Points (75 comments)10 Points (150 comments)
A small item from home.

Up to 30cm/12 inches big, at its' largest. Pets are included.

Trophy Item

An RNG'd trophy - one not donated already!

A Rare Encounter

A free rare encounter from the bestiary!
House Upgrade

See page for details.

A medium item from home.

Up to 2m/6.4 feet big, at its' largest. Pets are included.

Letter from Home

You can get a letter from any character from your characters' home. Your character can also send one home, using this reward.
Shapeshifting Scarf

A scarf that allows your character to change forms - sort of like selkie skin. This can allow them to either temporarily become an animal/Pokemon/beast, or allow them to return to being their proper species.
Yes, multiples can be brought. You can also use this to take a permanent form change.

This scarf is, like all items here, an OOC choice for your character. Not IC.

A random item sack from dungeons.

Up to five random items, magical or not.

Player Location OR Extra house.

(See page for details.)
A large item from home.

No size restriction. Pets are included.

De-Nerfer

An item to be placed at home, this will allow characters to use their natural magical or other powers, within reason. These are also able to be found in dungeons, but that's RNG.
Player Location - train destination!

Unlike the Player Location perk, this will allow others to come visit a bit of your home, as a destination on the train! You cannot use this to get an entire world in - so, for example... you couldn't add all of the Great Sea, but you could add an Island.

Like other locations, this will remain if you decide to leave the game. And like with other locations, people can NPC other characters from that location.

To redeem, leave a comment below with the following information.

Locations

Town

Smashville Basics

The town is rather well taken care of - weeds are rare, and flowers seem to bloom everywhere. A river seperates the town into two sides horozontally - with many Public Works Projects scattered around. And cliffs split it into two sides vertically as well. There's a nice secret beach you can swim to! It's a cozy place - even if there's no villagers who live in the city...
Mayors' Office

This is where Isabelle works, and the first proper stop for any newcomer! It's also where characters can hear about upcoming events, or come make a meeting with her. After all, why not try befriending the dog?
Police Station

Not only is the police station also a lost and found, it's a place which keeps the peace. Close to the Town Gates, Copper and Booker make sure that people coming back at least don't bring weapons that can't be reasonably nerfed into town. Isabelle is helping them hire more. But other then that, there's not much law and order in this town.
Event Plaza/Wishing Well

The Event Plaza is where most celebrations take place - under the large tree that Isabelle and the Villager planted, many years ago. The Wishing Well is a new addition, however - it's said that if characters throw enough MEOW Coupons, wishes can come true...
Lighthouse

Bringing light to the sea, Kapp'n won't travel if the light is out. The light in it seems to move around oddly...
Re-Tail

Not only is this a place where second-hand goods tend to pass though - from all the worlds connected to Smashville - but there's now a basement where engineering-types can experiment around and help create. Create what? Create whatever they want.
The Roost

A dreamy small cafe, with a gentle atmosphere. Run by a single bird, it's a great meeting spot - and on Saturdays, there's live performances from K.K. Slider.
Orchard

While the Villager was around, a large orchard of plants was grown, of every kind of fruit. Villagers are welcome to take whatever they want - just don't cut them down! Except for the Bamboo Shoots, they grow everywhere. Flowers have also grown here. However, one tree in the center is not allowed to be touched - a tree with golden leaves.
As an aside, the native fruit of Smashville are apples.

Campsite

Hot Springs

Set up in the mountains, a man known as Harvey made sure there were some relaxing hot springs. The problem? There's a lot of construction work going on nearby. They're still relaxing, but you might hear the sounds of drilling and digging... oh well.
Theatre

Main Street

Happy Home Showcase

Alas, there's not enough room in the town for the newcomers - so, instead, they're all housed in the Happy Home Showcase. Digby will make you comfortable, and there's enough room for everybody. Just, uh, be careful of your neighbours? Outside the Showcase is a layout, showing where everybody lives. There's also small garden plots characters can rent out!
For more information, check out the Player Housing post.
Able Sisters

Do you need some new clothes - or even fancy yourself a bit of a designer? Then come visit the Able Sisters, and they'll give you some material and tips!
Dream Suite

tba
General Store

Run by Timmy and Tommy, this store not only sells things to improve your house - but also sells food and other needed goods! A lot more of the former then the latter... and the two could really use some help!
Yes, you can work for them if you want.
Garden Shop

tba
Museum

After Smashville got put on the map, the Museum began to collect trophies - a bit like another figurine collection...
Villagers can also work part-time, to aid the owls catagorize their many bugs, fish, and fossils. There's also an observatory, for watching the stars.
Nook's Homes

Has your house gotten cramped? Do you have MEOW Coupons? Then come on over and get an upgrade from your dear friend Tom Nook. MEOW Coupons convert to quite a lot of Bells, or so it seems - why else would this raccoon - er, tanuki - accept them in place of far too many Bells? You can also remodel your exterior though this store.
Post Office

Letters are powerful things. Even if you live near to somebody, it might be nice to send a letter or two to your friends - or to NPCs. You can even send letters home - and get replies! Isn't that nice?
Restaurant

tba
On Main Street, there is an hourly bus to the City.

City

Shampoodle

It's weird that even lizards can have hair, but Hariette doesn't care. No, this smart pooch can style anything here at her own salon. She'll also listen to your issues - and nice and cheap!
The Marquee - Club LOL

tba
Concert Hall

tba
Gracie Grace

Crazy Redd's

Kicks

Run by a scamp of a stunk, Kicks is where you buy shoes and socks! It's weird that this is the only place, but they're quality!
School

tba
Clinic

Did you get a booboo, or did you fall in a Mysterious Dungeon? Then you'll wake up in the clinic. They also sell medicines and have books on how to live as an animal. They're quite basic, however... and there doesn't seem to actually be anybody running the clinic.
Cafe

A small relaxing cafe, where K.K. Slider can be seen on his off days - when not visiting the Roost. The prices are more expensive then said Roost, but... the coffee is nice when you're off and exploring.
Office

tba

Sunburst Island

Hotel

A hotel for those who wish to stay on Sunburst Island, where the sun never seems to fade! It's always summer here, and never rains. The former mayor of Smashville, Tortimer, also hosts small parties and games which he calls Tours. These can be played with friends or enemies, and vary from hunting down rare bugs and gems - to even hitting each other or a robot with hammers!

Train Station

While the train seems comfortable, there's quite a few tunnels it goes though... to visit worlds outside of Animal Crossing! At first there's only a few stops, more will come later.

To see these locations and train stops, go on over to this post!
anewleaf_mods: (Default)

Player Housing and Locations
When players arrive, they begin with a small home. But if they feel it's a little too... small? They can use MEOW Coupons to upgrade it!
Note that characters can also share houses - but they'll still have their own housing waiting for them.

Upgrades
Room Expansion

Each room can go from small (the default, think a cramped apartment) to large (Almost feels a little too big...)

Extra Rooms
You can have up to five extra rooms - one upstairs, one basement, and three extra on the ground floor. At least, that's how it was laid out in canon. In this RP, however, you can have these extra rooms wherever you want!

If you wish for housing upgrades, however, you'll need a post on your journal to keep track of them. A basic code is in linked here - just bold what you already have!

Exterior Looks
You don't need to use MEOW coupons to alter how your exterior looks - and there's no limit on when you can change it, either!

Moving Houses?

Once three rooms are fully upgraded, your character can buy a second - or more - house... they can even buy them in locations characters can get to from train! They don't need to use these as houses, mind you.

Other Locations

Characters can also bring locations from home - these turn up in the Happy House Academy. Even if they're seemingly unfitting...! Even if a character drops, these locations will remain accessible.

There are currently no player locations.

Dungeon Information and Sign-ups
While this is an Animal Crossing RP, there are also explorations and... well, Mysterious Dungeons! Each location has strange holes into Subspace, and these are places characters can seek out information. Or just have fun, of course!

There will be at least one mod run dungeon every two months - these will have sign up slots. Depending on the number of people, it will take up to two weeks - and each one will have a custom reward. (Either related to the plot, or fun custom items to play with!)'

These dungeons, however, will be discussed OOCly at the same time as ICly - so that even if it doesn't end up fully roleplayed out, the people involved have an idea on how they turn out.

When you run one with your friends, however, simply toss a link on the main dungeon page when you're done, so it can be checked over and given proper rewards. In order to get rewards, there is a certain amount of comments needed.

Easy: 15 comments per character. A reward will be a single trophy, or a single dungeon drop per character.
Medium: 25 comments per character. A reward for this tier can be a mix of trophies and dungeon drops - randomly decided.

Dungeon Rules and Questions
So, why would my character explore these?
Do they like adventure? Do they like neat loot, or just getting to beat things up? Then these are right for you. Isabelle doesn't like beating things up, but she does understand - so that's why these dungeons are even mentioned in the town!
I want to take these creatures home.
Lucky for you, you can! Timmy and Tommy Nook sell a fancy looking hypnosis gun. This doesn't work on other villagers (unless both you and the other player want to play around with it, of course), but can let you recruit more monster-like creatures to your side. (Or you can just try feeding the same one and taking care of them for a while.)
What happens if I die?
If you are close to death, you'll... wake up in the clinic. If you wake up quick enough, you might see a slight black shadow vanishing into the ground. You'll have lost any treasure you'd found so far, or any items you were carrying. When you return, you'll need to begin from the beginning...!

If you have any questions, please leave them below!

Bestiary
Uncommon encounters basically mean that you probably won't be finding large swarms of them. As noted on the Dungeon FAQ, you can capture all of these creatures and take them home. Rare slots are given out by RNG every State of the Game, or can be gotten though MEOW Coupons.

Trophies given out in dungeons and events should be automatically added to the museum - once entered, characters are allowed to borrow them and use them freely. Once a certain amount are found, good things will happen!
